International and Global

The SPA aims to be an outward looking association where international and global aspects of social policy, a broad world view, and engagement with scholars residing outside of as well as within the UK lie at the heart of what we do and how we go about it. This page provides details of scholarly associations in other countries with whom we have reciprocal arrangements and links to their websites, as well as links to the websites of a number of other overseas social policy associations and organisations and journals relevant to the international and global aspects of social policy. You can also find here a link to the SPA's newsletter, Policy World, which regularly carries reports of social policy in other countries.

Associations in other countries with which SPA has reciprocal arrangements:

  • African Social Policy Association: ASPA has recently been formed by colleagues in Kenya, with financial support from the UK SPA for their inaugural conference.
  • Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM): APPAM (USA) has a reciprocal arrangement with the UK SPA that allows members of one association to join the other at preferential rates. APPAM members may therefore join the SPA for £34, whilst SPA members may join APPAM for $70.
  • Australian Social Policy Association: The UK SPA has agreed to support the creation of the Australian Social Policy Association which will soon be launched. This commits the UK SPA to a reciprocal agreement with the new Australian SPA whereby, in its first year of existence, members of the Australian association can join UK SPA at the lowest rate and members of each can attend the other's conferences at the membership rate. The SPA continues to collaborate and have constructive dialogue with social policy associations in a wide range of countries, and encourages colleagues from overseas to contact us to discuss reciprocal arrangements or other forms of collaboration.
