Call for expressions of interest: The current and future state of social policy teaching

In 2011 the SPA undertook a survey of social policy teaching in UK Higher Education Institutions. The survey asked about the current (2011) position of courses, potential changes within HEIs in terms of social policy courses and the experience of teaching social policy. Five years on, the SPA is looking to commission a follow-on survey which adopts a similar approach to the original study:

  • A desk-based audit of social policy provision
  • An online survey of individuals teaching social policy
  • A small number of qualitative interviews with teaching staff

We are looking for postgraduate researchers to undertake this important work on the SPA’s behalf. Applications can be from individuals or small groups. Support will be provided via the SPA Executive Committee. A budget of up to £5000 will be provided to cover all aspects of the research, including the production of the final report. It is hoped that the research can be completed in around six months.

If you are interested in carrying out this piece of work please provide a short overview of your research experience, evidence of your ability to work to tight timescales, a plan of work and a brief overview of how the budget will be used. Expressions of interest should be sent to Clare Williams (clare.williams@wlv.ac.uk). The closing date is Monday 15th February 2016.
